What is engagement and why is it important?
Engagement is an employee’s emotional and intellectual commitment to an organisation. Strong levels of positive engagement have been shown to have a positive impact on an organisation’s levels of productivity and profitability, as well as client and employee loyalty.
Engagement is measured by three key metrics:
- Motivation (i.e. employees going the extra mile for clients - shown to be a highly significant predictor of productivity),
- Commitment (i.e. in it for the long term – shown to be a good predictor of brand-promise delivery and employee retention),
- Advocacy (i.e. employees speaking highly of firm to people outside the organisation – predictor of client recommendation and employee attraction). Unlike engagement, ‘satisfaction’ is a passive measure.
